The Atlanta Office of The Cochran Firm joins forces with Fernando Chavez, Son of Civil Rights Leader Cesar Chavez

ATLANTA- In continuing with the legacy of providing a voice to the voiceless, The Atlanta office of The Cochran Firm, headed by senior partner Hezekiah Sistrunk, is proud to launch the opening of the Latino section. The section is Chaired nationally by Fernando Chavez-son of iconic civil rights leader Cesar Chavez. Mr. Chavez is a leading trial lawyer with more than 25 years of experience practicing before state and federal courts. The Cochran Firm Latino Section, launched in Atlanta, will serve as a national model for the other regional law offices.

Fernando Chavez obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Santa Clara School of Law in 1978. He received his Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from San Jose State University in San Jose in 1975, and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from the Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1973.

My life has been dedicated to supporting social justice.  I am proud to continue the legacy of my father.  It is an honor to join The Cochran Firm.  Johnnie Cochran was a champion for the disenfranchised people of the United States,” says Chavez. 

Fernando’s father, César Chavez (March 31, 1927April 23, 1993) was a Mexican American labor leader and civil rights activist who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers.

Cesar Chavez’s work led to improvements for workers, and changed the way millions of Latinos live today.  Chavez is considered a hero for farm laborers, and is regarded by millions as one of the greatest American civil rights leaders.
