What is Just For Men?
Just For Men is manufactured by Combe, Inc. and has been on the market since 1987. It is a popular chemical hair coloring product used primarily by middle aged men who have begun to see gray hair in the hair, moustache and beards.
Just for Men Lawsuits have been filed against Combe, Inc. and Combe International alleging the makers of Just For Men products did not adequately warn users about the risks and negative side effects such as:
- Severe burning, itching, rash reactions also known as contact dermatitis
- “Weeping” sores or blisters
- Scarring or rapidly spreading skin rash
- Permanent pigmentation loss
- Anaphylactic shock
A severe allergic reaction can quickly turn into a medical emergency. You may need to be hospitalized. A sever chemical burn can result in excruciating pain and suffering, even permanent scarring.
Harsh Chemicals Cause Health Risks
Just For Men contains certain chemicals which are associated with health risks. One chemical, p-Phenylenediamine (PPD), is a dark chemical used in hair dye since the 1980s. A well-known allergen, the American Contact Dermatitis Society states that p-Phenylenediamine can cause allergic reactions in at least 5-7% users. Studies suggest that African American users are at an increased risk for reactions to PPD. It is believed that the darker colors of Just For Men contain more PPD, thus compounding the health risks.
Over 400 men have reported problems with Just For Men on ConsumerAffairs.com. Many of the complaints about the hair dye product were from customers who have used Just For Men for 10 years or more.
The manufacturer of Just For Men does not provide adequate guidelines on the label about testing their products prior to use. Even when men have previously used Just For Men products without experiencing any problems, some users report suffering an adverse reaction with later use.
To suddenly experience problems from the same product caused many to ask if the chemical formula had been changed. A spokesperson for Combe, Inc. told Consumer Affairs that the formula for Just For Men has not changed in seven years.
