Mari-Elizabeth L. Sanford is a strong advocate of fighting for justice and the rights of victims who have been injured due to the negligence of another. A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Ms. Sanford earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Memphis in 2015. Prior to her graduation from the University of Memphis, she served an internship at the Shelby County District Attorney General Office. While serving in this role, she developed a passion for the pursuit of justice which later fueled her decision to study law.

In the fall of 2015, Ms. Sanford was accepted at the University of Mississippi School of Law where she excelled in her studies and received the coveted Dean’s Scholarship. She participated in several student organizations and worked in the Child Advocacy Clinic as a student attorney. Because she achieved the highest grade of any student participating in this Clinic, she was recognized as the most outstanding student in the program and was asked to return as an advanced student the following semester.

Ms. Sanford is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and California. Since graduating from law school, she has had the opportunity to gain experience in both plaintiff’s and defense work. Immediately upon passing the Tennessee Bar in 2018, Ms. Sanford began work as a Plaintiff’s attorney representing victims of negligence. She handled a wide array of personal injury claims which included automobile accidents, medical malpractice, workers’ compensation, and social security disability claims. In 2020, Ms. Sanford became licensed to practice law in California. Prior to joining The Cochran Firm, Ms. Sanford worked as a defense attorney in Los Angeles defending employment litigation matters on behalf of public and private sector clients. Ms. Sanford later came to realize that it was her passion to continue to fight for the rights of injured victims in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, and joining the Cochran Firm of the Mid-South was a perfect fit for her background.

Ms. Sanford is also concerned about important community issues such as the problem of poverty and homelessness in Memphis.  Since 2010, she has worked as a volunteer with HER Faith Ministries, a local group that provides emergency food, clothing, transportation assistance and mentoring to homeless and needy women and children. In her leisure time, she is an active member of her Church and enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Ms. Sanford’s goals are to continue to develop her career in the field of law and to continue to support important community issues and causes.
