Comedian Tracy Morgan settles personal injury lawsuit with Wal-Mart over deadly limo auto accident

tracy30n-3-webActor-comedian Tracy Morgan, best known for his roles on “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock,” has settled his personal injury lawsuit against Wal-Mart arising from an auto accident that occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike last summer. On July 10, 2014, a Wal-Mart truck struck the Mercedes Sprinter bus in which Morgan was a passenger. The car crash killed fellow comedian James McNair and Morgan suffered a broken nose, fractured ribs, a broken leg and femur, and a traumatic brain injury. Morgan, 46, was hospitalized for more than a week and then transferred to a rehabilitation facility for several weeks.

Two other passengers in the crash were also plaintiffs in the lawsuit. The driver of the Wal-Mart truck faces criminal charges and has pleaded not guilty. The criminal complaint alleges the driver operated his truck for more than 24 hours without sleeping.

Morgan was unable to attend Saturday Night Live’s 40th anniversary show in February due to injuries from the crash. Terms of his settlement with Wal-Mart are confidential, but Morgan said in a statement that “Wal-Mart did right by me and my family, and for my associates and their families.”

Note: The Cochran Firm, D.C. did not provide legal representation to any of the victims of Morgan’s car accident.
