Courthouse News Service: Family Represented by The Cochran Firm DC Says Firemen Were Asleep on the Job

Courthouse News Service, a nationwide news service for lawyers and the news media, recently covered the Medric Cecil Mills case. The Mills family is represented by Karen Evans, partner with The Cochran Firm, D.C. The Mills family has filed a wrongful death claim, alleging that D.C. firefighters let Medric Cecil Mills die of a heart attack across the street from a fire station because they wanted an official dispatch before responding. Read the Courthouse News Service's coverage of the case:

The Mills are represented by Karen Evans of the Cochran Firm, who said the case could hinge on the public duty doctrine, which holds that the city has a duty to its citizens as a whole, not to any one specific person.
Evans said she plans to argue this doctrine should not apply in cases where the "conduct is inexcusable."
"This isn't about any money for [the Mills family], it's about real reform," Evans said in an interview.
