Stryker to Pay Over $1B to Settle Defective Hip Implant Lawsuits

Victims accuse Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II hip devices of causing pain, swelling, and leaving metal debris

Stryker Corp. has agreed to pay more than $1 billion to settle claims related to its allegedly defective hip implant devices. During 2012, the Kalamazoo, Michigan-based Stryker recalled its ABG II and Rejuvenate devices. The medical equipment and device company faces about 1,800 hip implant lawsuits that have been consolidated in Minnesota federal court. Stryker also faces 2,100 hip device claims in a multidistrict litigation in New Jersey. Victims allege that Stryker hip replacement devices cause high levels of metal debris in their blood.
