Cochran Firm DC to Hold Press Conference with Jaydan Stancil's Family

Suit to filed against Mayfair Mays Apartment Complex after 9-year-old boy severely injured by gunfire on the property

On Tuesday, April 14, 2015, The Cochran Firm, D.C. will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. at the firm's address at 1100 New York Ave. NW, Suite 340, with the family of Jaydan Stancil to bring attention to the shooting of nine-year-old Jayden.  David Haynes, the managing attorney of The Cochran Firm, D.C., will announce the filing of a lawsuit on behalf of the family against the Mayfair Mansions Apartment Complex in Northeast Washington, D.C., and the security company responsible for the housing complex.  Jaydan’s tragic story could have been prevented if only the property owners had practiced proper judgment in maintaining the safety and security of the Mayfair Mansions Apartment Complex.

Jayden Stancil was hurt in crossfire

Jaydan Stancil was innocently playing on the playground of the Mayfair Mansions Apartment Complex in October 2014 when a gunfight broke out in a parking lot located on the grounds of the apartment complex.  Young Jaydan was caught in the crossfire and struck in the head with one of the shots fired.  Though Jaydan survived his injury, the bullet lodged in his brain was unable to be removed and his prognosis did not look good.

Despite his severe injury, Jaydan is making a miraculous recovery and is back home with his family.  Jaydan has regained the sight lost in one of his eyes and taught himself to walk again.  The outpour of support for Jaydan has been uplifting and his family and The Cochran Firm, D.C. hope to use this tragedy to spur changes in our criminal justice system so others will be spared the circumstances Jaydan and his family have been through.

The Cochran Firm D.C. Calling for Measures to Reduce Gun Violence

Jaydan’s family and The Cochran Firm, D.C. are calling for a reduction in senseless gun violence and to get more guns off our streets.  The press conference will also touch on the shortcomings of the police investigation into Jaydan’s shooting.  There have been no arrests in the case and delays in processing the evidence have only exacerbated the search for justice.  As Jaydan waits for his attackers to be held accountable, The Cochran Firm, D.C. will be filing suit against Mayfair Mansions Apartment Complex and the security company hired to patrol the grounds.
