UFC Champion Jon Jones arrested for leaving the scene of car accident

Fighter breaks arm of pregnant woman in car accident, flees scene

jon_jones_personal_injury_lawsuitFormer Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC) light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones was arrested last week in Arizona for fleeing the scene of an accident on foot.  Jones was driving a rental car when he struck another vehicle, breaking the arm of pregnant woman inside.  Jones then proceeded to leave the scene of the accident without waiting for authorities to arrive.

Several witnesses, including an off-duty police officer, identified the former UFC champion as the person who left the scene of the accident after the SUV struck and injured a pregnant woman. A search of the SUV revealed drug paraphernalia inside as well.  Jones could face up to three years in jail for leaving the scene of an accident involving a personal injury.  Jon Jones was also arrested for DUI in 2012 when he drove his car into a light post.

Fighter stripped of his light heavyweight championship title, could face years in jail

In response to his latest transgression, the UFC has stripped Jon Jones of his light heavyweight championship and suspended him indefinitely from the sport. Jones is 27-1 in his career and considered by some to be one of the greatest athletes to compete in mixed martial arts.  His agent, Malki Kawa, has stated he is unsure if Jones will ever compete again after his latest arrest.

Drivers involved in car accidents where bodily injury occurs have a legal obligation to stay at the scene of accidents and provide aid and give statements to police.  Jon Jones failed to stay at the scene of an accident involving personal injury and faces serious criminal charges.
