Cochran Firm Detroit attorneys James King and Sahar Faraj held a press conference in The Cochran Firm office in Detroit, MI, on October 12, 2022, with Tyler Wade and his family.  Seventeen-year-old Wade was arrested in Ferndale, MI, on June 6, 2022, when Warren officers pulled him from his car, threw him immediately to the ground, and began to punch and kick him multiple times despite the fact that Wade had his hands up and stated that he wasn’t resisting.  The violent assault that was caught on police body camera was released for the first time at the press conference.

The incident resulted in a concussion, blurred vision in Wade’s right eye, and his braces being knocked off of his teeth.  He has also experienced extreme headaches and dizziness, especially when he stands up.  The ruptured blood vessels in his eye could lead to permanent vision loss.  The involved officers originally stated that the injuries were a result of Wade hitting the ground.

"Just that he had to go through that. Just that four or five grown men will surround you, and you don’t know what’s going to happen. You don’t know if this is the last time you’re going to see your mom, your brothers, your sisters, your aunts, the ones you love because the ones who are supposed to protect you are hurting you."

-Bianca Wade, Tyler’s mother

One police officer can be heard in the body camera footage attempting to de-escalate the situation while putting handcuffs on Wade by repeatedly yelling, “All right, all right, all right.”  So far, only one officer has received a suspension.

Of the charges against Wade, he pled no contest to fleeing and eluding officers and receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle.  The police had charged him with weapon possession, but Wade was never convicted.
