In June of 2019 24-year-old Ryan Twyman had an encounter with Los Angeles County deputies that resulted in the young man being shot 34 times.  After receiving a tip that Twyman was in the Willowbrook apartment parking lot, the deputies blocked the exit with their cruiser and approached Twyman's vehicle.  Less than a minute later Twyman was dead.  No weapons were found in his car.

Los Angeles County leaders have approved a $3.9 million settlement for Twyman's family.  In an interview, Cochran Firm attorney Brian Dunn explains that, albeit slowly, things are changing for the better citing fewer LAPD homicides against African Americans, jurors being less likely to automatically side with law enforcement, and police beginning to show genuine remorse when they're involved in a shooting death.
