Cleveland, Ohio 5/28/2020- The family of 13-year-old Tamia Chapman has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.  They are alleging that the Cleveland police officers involved in the car chase that led to her death are responsible because they disregarded police procedures.  The lawsuit was filed against 22 officers who violated Ohio law and department procedures during their chase where speeds of up to 75 mph were reached.  The pursuit started when an off-duty officer witnessed a woman being carjacked at gunpoint by two men.  “At the time of the incident, once the chase occurred, the original victim was already safe.  The only thing they were chasing at that point was property.  There’s never a situation where the property should be taken over the life of a person, particularly this young lady,” said Cochran Firm attorney Shean Williams.
